This is Coach Carey’s 18th season as the head boy’s varsity basketball coach at San Marcos High School. He passed the 300 win mark at San Marcos High school in his 16th season. Before taking over the program in 2006, the Knights were 4-22 the previous season. His San Marcos accomplishments includes 8 League Championships, 17 playoffs appearances and 10 tournament championships. He began his coaching career as a varsity assistant coach at Francis Parker High, for the 2004-2005 basketball season. Coach Carey’s basketball background includes being a varsity starter at San Marcos High School from 1996-1998. Coach Carey continued as the starting PG for Palomar College before his collegiate career at San Francisco State University, where he was the starting Point Guard and captain of the team. He finished up his career playing for San Francisco City in the Pro-AM League. Coach Carey’s academic background includes a high school diploma from San Marcos High School (1998), Associates Degree from Palomar College, Bachelors Degree from San Francisco State University as well as a Teaching Credential and Masters Degree.
Coach Cowell is in his 13th season with the Knights program. He began his high school coaching career as a JV/Varsity Assistant Coach to the Lady Knights. Coach Cowell strives to teach players values such as attentiveness, sincerity, diligence, and responsibility. These core values have led the Freshman Knights to consecutive winning seasons. Coach Cowell is a graduate from La Costa Canyon High School (2004) and has a Bachelor’s Degree in Kinesiology from California State University, San Marcos (2010). Varsity AssisT Tony Laguna
This is Tony's 15th season which he also attended and played for San Marcos High. During this time he taught himself to do video editing and production in case basketball wouldn’t pay off. After high school he played Semi-Pro basketball and still plays to this day. He is here to teach the young athletes what they want and need, to learn to make them better players.
Coach RoyJansen is in his 3rd season at San Marcos High School. He played his freshman year of college basketball at Kean College in New Jersey. Then one year at Southern Connecticut State University, and finished his college career at Salve Regina University in Newport, Rhode Island. Where he graduated with a BA in Information System Science. After college Coach Roy played 2 years of professional basketball in the Netherlands for the city of Rotterdam.
